Book Club: Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness

Join Mindfulness For Life for six weekly discussions of Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness by David Treleaven. We’ll explore how mindfulness can be taught and practiced in ways that are safer, more inclusive, and more effective—for everyone.

With research suggesting that 90% of U.S. adults have experienced trauma, every meditation group likely includes someone processing traumatic stress. Without trauma-sensitive approaches, meditation can unintentionally worsen anxiety, trigger dissociation, or retraumatize. Treleaven’s methods offer practical tools to prevent harm and deepen practice, encouraging participants to trust their own experience as the compass toward greater stability.

Each 75-minute session includes guided discussion, reflection, and takeaways for life, teaching, or professional work. These skills are essential for every practitioner and teacher, and form the bedrock of Mindfulness For Life’s curriculum.

Discussions are facilitated by MFL board members Lama Adam Berner and Kayla Cardenas, who volunteer their leadership to support Mindfulness For Life’s mission to make mindfulness safe and accessible for all.
