6-SESSION INDIVIDUAL GUIDANCE PROGRAM
Sustainable Service: Giving Without Losing Yourself
Our signature training offers meaningful frameworks and sustainable strategies for frontline caregivers and community advocates who give generously of themselves to the people they serve, built on trauma-sensitive mindfulness and an understanding of moral injury.
Do You Ever Feel This?
You pour yourself into work that matters, and the dissonance between what you believe should be possible and what you’re actually seeing keeps getting harder to manage. The burden may be something heavier than burnout. It can feel like a wound to your sense of what’s right and what’s possible. You’ve started to wonder if the work is even worth it anymore, even though you still believe in it completely.
What this describes, at its worst, has a name: moral injury. Whereas burnout is a resource problem, moral injury is a meaning problem: an imbalance between your values and what you witness, do, or allow. And that imbalance doesn’t only show up in its most devastating form. It lives on a spectrum, present in smaller doses every day and in every area of life. As you grow more familiar with it, there are countless opportunities to learn from it, building the skills and awareness to meet and even prevent its most severe forms.
How the Program Works
Six 45-minute one-on-one sessions over Zoom, scheduled at your convenience, built around a framework developed through years of contemplative training and direct work with frontline caregivers, tailored to who you are and the specific challenges you’re facing.
We’ll start by exploring the mindfulness you may already practice without realizing it, and learning to notice moral dissonance in its smaller, everyday forms. From there, sessions build toward clarifying your own values and where they may leave you vulnerable, developing real tools for steadying yourself in the moment, and cultivating a more skillful balance between your ideals and what’s actually possible day to day. This won’t make the hard moments disappear, but it can equip you to meet them with more clarity, more balance, and more compassion, for the people you serve and for yourself, including compassion for what you can reasonably do in any given moment.
About Your Guide
After 15 years of contemplative training, including a traditional three-and-a-half-year cloistered retreat and formal study in trauma-sensitive mindfulness and the science of human flourishing, Adam Berner learned the hard way what happens when you give everything to a mission and leave nothing for yourself. He’s spent the years since translating that experience, and the science of nervous system regulation, into practical tools for people doing hard, meaningful work.
Investment
Mindfulness For Life exists to provide this training to frontline caregivers who need it, regardless of their ability to pay. Paid enrollments are a big part of what makes that possible. The three tiers below reflect what you’re able to invest, and what you’re able to help make possible for someone else.
Every tier includes a complimentary one-year membership in the Anchor Club, our membership community, which gives you continued access to MFL programs, live sessions, and our growing digital library. It’s a place to keep practicing, and stay connected, once your six sessions are done.
Not ready for the full program? Single sessions are available for $100. They’re a separate offering, useful for working through a specific situation.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
This program is for anyone doing work that asks you to witness suffering, navigate impossible tradeoffs, or carry responsibility for people in difficult circumstances, regardless of your job title or field. If you regularly navigate the gap between the dignity and support you believe people deserve and what your resources and circumstances allow, this training was built with you in mind.
-
No. This program doesn’t diagnose or treat mental health conditions, and it isn’t a substitute for therapy. It’s a skills-based training grounded in mindfulness and contemplative practice, focused specifically on moral injury: the strain between your values and what you witness or do in your work. Many people find it works well alongside therapy, not instead of it.
-
The training itself is identical across all three tiers: six one-on-one sessions, the same framework, the same guidance. What differs is what your investment makes possible beyond your own training. The Personal Investment tier covers your training. Pay It Forward and Full Sponsor also support free training for caregivers who couldn’t pay for it themselves.
Mindfulness For Life is built on a simple belief: people who have the means to invest in their own growth are often glad to help extend that same opportunity to someone who couldn’t access it otherwise. And in our experience, that act of generosity tends to enrich their own experience with us, because the values that bring you to this work in the first place are the same ones that make it meaningful to pay it forward.

Each session is 45 minutes. We recommend scheduling the first three sessions about two weeks apart, and the remaining three about a month apart, giving you time to put what you’re learning into practice between sessions. That’s our recommended cadence, but every session is scheduled at your convenience, so the pace can flex to fit your life.
-
Mindfulness isn’t about clearing your mind or achieving some perfectly calm state. It’s the practiced skill of noticing what’s actually happening in your body, your thoughts, and your reactions, without immediately getting swept up in it. Meditation is one way to build that skill, but it isn’t the only way, and you don’t need any meditation experience to begin this program. Most people are already practicing small moments of mindfulness without realizing it. This training simply gives you a name for what you’re doing, and sharpens it into something you can rely on.
-
This program is designed to help you manage the tension between the good you want to do and what your resources and circumstances actually allow, whether you’re just starting to feel that strain or you’ve been carrying it for years. It is not designed for acute crisis, including suicidal thoughts or safety concerns. If that’s where you are right now, please reach out to a crisis line or mental health professional first. Once you’re in a stable place, this training can be a meaningful part of what comes next.
-
What makes this program distinctive is the specific foundation it’s built on: trauma-sensitive mindfulness, an understanding of the dynamics of moral injury, and the science of human flourishing, one of the most rigorous areas of research into what it actually takes to thrive, not just cope. It’s developed and taught by Adam Berner, who holds formal training and certification in all of the above, and has completed over 20,000 hours of formal contemplative practice, including a three-and-a-half-year immersive retreat.

Yes. Organizations can enroll staff at any tier, and we’re glad to set up arrangements for multiple people. Paid enrollments help sustain our ability to offer subsidized spots for caregivers who couldn’t otherwise access this training. If your organization can’t cover the cost, reach out anyway. Subsidized spots are limited, but we look at every request.
-
Yes. Single one-on-one sessions are $100, scheduled at your convenience. They’re a good fit for working through one specific situation, but they’re separate from this program and don’t follow its six-session framework. Because the program builds along a specific arc from the first session on, a single session doesn’t count toward the program fee. If you want the full training, the program is the way to get it, and at $499 it works out to less than $85 a session.
