Help the Helpers Program
Hey friends!
I wanted to tell you a little bit today about the Help the Helpers program I've been developing at Mindfulness For Life, specifically because it's Giving Tuesday, and we could use your support.
In helping professions, where people are driven by a strong sense of purpose and deeply held values. It's not uncommon for those values to be transgressed by someone else or by the individual themselves. In extreme cases, this results in moral injury, a prime driver of attrition and burnout in these fields. So it's really vital that we do something to take care of these people and prepare them for the potential of a moral injury.
Now moral injury is a term I'm not super fond of, for a number of reasons, but the working title of this program is the Moral Injury Prevention Program. And this is innovative because, while there are moral injury interventions after the fact—and those interventions do involve mindfulness and meditation—there's really no preventative care happening.
And this is surprising, because we know where moral injury is likely: in the helping professions, where people are caring for others, fighting for human rights and for dignity. That’s why it's so vital that, especially in the coming years, we do what we can to keep people in the game, doing good. That's what we're working on here with the moral injury prevention program, the Help the Helpers program, and your donation to Mindfulness For Life can help us bring it to life.
This is going to be huge; systems level change kind of stuff! So please consider supporting us through the website or through the fundraiser you see here. We really appreciate you. Thank you.
